Dalton Vaughn '25 - Student Athlete Award of Excellence Winner

St. Cecilia Academy senior Dalton Vaughn was named a Student Athlete Award of Excellence winner by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA).  The NFHS Award of Excellence for Sportsmanship, Ethics & Integrity was created to honor student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional character and sportsmanship during their athletic pursuits.
Vaughn is a three-sport athlete in golf, basketball, and lacrosse and has been part of those teams throughout her four-year high school career. She was nominated by head SCA varsity basketball coach Tony Thompson, who called Vaughn “someone who exemplifies high character, values, and community service.”

When she learned about the recognition, she said, “I felt incredibly honored and grateful for the award. I am thankful for my coaches, teammates, and support system who helped me to achieve this accomplishment.” She hopes that receiving the Award will inspire other St. Cecilia students to follow the example and establish a culture of integrity and kindness to others. “I believe sportsmanship and character are crucial in athletics, and they contribute to overall success.”

She cites her parents, teachers, and coaches as her greatest influencers who have taught her to have a determined work ethic, perseverance, and sportsmanship. In addition to sports, Vaughn is President of Sodality, Vice President of the Spanish Club, a member of the Ambassador Board, and a vocalist in the St. Cecilia Choir. She attends the Cathedral of the Incarnation with her family.
