CONGRATULATIONS, MRS. SARA BRUNETTE STROBEL, ON 10 YEARS AT SCA!

Congratulations, Sara Brunette Strobel, for celebrating 10 years at St. Cecilia Academy! Mrs. Strobel serves as the Social Science Department Chair, as a teacher, as a club sponsor, and is a member of the Class of 2001. Mrs. Strobel likes being able to apply different teaching techniques and styles to make learning fun for her students. The best feeling for her is seeing the joy in her students when they make connections. She calls teaching at St. Cecilia “a gift”.

We asked Mrs. Strobel to share her experiences on the Dominican Campus.

“I grew up in Nashville and graduated from Overbrook Catholic School (1997) and St. Cecilia Academy (2001). My mom, Anne Brunette, was the SCA art teacher for many years and was one of the founders of the Visual and Performing Arts (VAP) and Arts Parts programs. Needless to say, I was on campus quite a bit. After graduation, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in History from Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, AL, followed by a Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, LA.”

After teaching nine years at McGavock High School in Nashville, Mrs. Strobel was ready for a change. “My husband saw an open St. Cecilia faculty position and encouraged me to apply. Teaching at SCA is like ‘coming home’, as I have spent more years on the Dominican Campus (23 years) than anywhere else!”

When speaking about her time in the classroom, Mrs. Strobel says, “The girls make teaching at SCA so special! It is one of my greatest joys when my students have an ‘ah-ha’ moment and things ‘click’, and they can make connections. I am passionate about using different teaching styles and techniques to meet the needs of various learners, and make learning FUN!”

Two of Mrs. Strobel’s favorite traditions are Spirit Week and All-School Retreat. “Some of my best memories at SCA are from Spirit Week: dressing up, dancing flash mobs, and having wholesome fun! I also love the All-School Retreat, especially Adoration and the personal witness talks.”

Reflecting on her time at St. Cecilia, she states, “The SCA community and legacy are unmatched. This place is special!”

Mrs. Strobel’s children, Andrew and Rosemary, are following in her footsteps as students at Overbrook Catholic School. “I want them to have that same campus feeling of being at home and discovering who God made them to be, and I can’t wait until Rosemary is a fourth-generation St. Cecilia Girl!”

In her free time, Mrs. Strobel enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, taking pictures, reading, listening to live music, and going to the beach.
