CONGRATULATIONS, MR. MIKE THORNTON, ON 5 YEARS AT SCA!

Congratulations, Mike Thornton, on 5 years at St. Cecilia Academy.  Mr. Thornton teaches high school math and is one of our campus security guards. After discerning a call to teach, he enjoys seeing the SCA students grow in confidence each year.

We asked Mr. Thornton to share his experiences on the Dominican Campus.
“I grew up in Memphis and graduated from the University of Memphis with a BS in Finance. I spent 28 years in leasing and sales of modular buildings, classrooms, and construction office trailers, ending my career as Regional Manager at WillScot Inc.”

After being on the Dominican Campus for his daughter, Keely ‘17, Mr. Thornton said he sought a change. “I discerned a call to teach after coaching my children and reigniting my Catholic faith through Dominican Dads.”

He mentioned that he enjoys teaching at St. Cecilia because he can live out his faith at work. Mr. Thornton is grateful to give back to the school after how it helped in the formation of his daughter. Favorite memories include coaching powderpuff teams through the years and seeing the confidence in the students when they graduate. “SCA gives girls a chance to gain confidence to be themselves,” he said.

In his free time, you can find Mr. Thornton watching college and pro football or enjoying the outdoors, especially camping, kayaking, and hiking with his wife of almost 30 years, Wendy.

Thank you, Mr. Thornton, for your five years of service to St. Cecilia Academy!
